Summary

A 19th-century manor in Copăceni (Săndulești commune, Cluj County), built near the site of an older Vitéz family fortified manor whose materials it reused. Listed as state-owned and, according to Monumente Uitate, used as social housing.

History

The village was acquired in 1548 by Andrei Vitéz and his wife Agneta Alkay, whose family came from the Koppándi line, and they had a fortified manor with bastions and water-filled ditches. After the male Vitéz line died out in 1733 the village passed to the treasury, and in 1743 returned to the widow Susana Korda and her daughter. Later owners included the Bánffy family and, by 1889, Count István Károlyi. By 1889 only old cellars and one bastion of the old manor remained; its materials went into the present manor nearby. The Romanian state is listed as the current owner.
