sat Moldovenești; comuna Moldovenești, Cluj · 126
Summary
A Baroque castle in Moldovenești (Cluj County), begun in the 16th century and completed in the 19th, associated with the Jósika family. Monumente Uitate lists it as a residence and as not accessible.
History
Construction is dated to the 16th-19th centuries. In spring 1912, planting work in the castle garden uncovered an early medieval cemetery, and archaeologist Márton Roska excavated 57 graves; the castle then belonged to Baron Gábor Jósika. Sources differ on its present status: a 2012 note on Romanian Wikipedia describes it as privately owned and not open to visitors, while the same article says the town hall uses it.
