Summary

A neoclassical manor in Solești (Vaslui County), built in the 1820s and tied to Elena Cuza, wife of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, who spent her childhood there. Now a roofless-in-part ruin owned by the Rosetti-Solescu heirs abroad, while the commune tries to take it over.

Legal status

Nationalised 1949; entered the commune's public inventory in 2001; heirs claimed it in 2002 and 2005; handover to commune not completed ↗

History

The Solești estate is attested in a charter of Stephen the Great in 1502 and passed to the Ruset (Rosetti) family around 1690. The manor was built around 1825-1827 for a member of the Rosetti-Solescu family; sources disagree on which one. In 1844 the religious wedding of Elena Rosetti and Alexandru Ioan Cuza took place here, and Elena's remains were buried in the church courtyard in 1909. The estate was nationalised in 1949 and the manor served as a school (1949-1977) and later passed to the Vaslui IAS state-farm trust. The 1977 earthquake caused heavy damage and a 1979-1980 restoration was poorly done and halted. After 1989 it was abandoned and looted. In 2002 and 2005 the heirs of Theodor Rosetti claimed it; AGERPRES reported in January 2026 that it belongs to the heirs abroad and the commune's takeover talks have stalled.
