History
Boyar Ioan Oteteleșanu acquired part of an older estate and built the manor in the second half of the 19th century (Wikipedia: 1841-1850). The park was laid out by Karl Meyer. In 1876 Oteteleșanu bequeathed his estate to found a girls' institute. After his widow Elena died in 1888, the estate was donated to the Romanian Academy in 1893 and the Institute opened in 1894 under writer Ioan Slavici, with two annexes added in 1898. After the Second World War it was altered for the Institute of Atomic Physics, losing some original elements. Earthquakes in 1977, 1986 and 1990 damaged it. It was consolidated and rehabilitated by 2019 and is administered by the National Institute for Materials Physics.
