Summary

A Baroque manor of the Kemény family on a small hill in Galda de Jos (Alba County). Today it houses a neuropsychiatric recovery centre.

History

The Baroque manor of the Kemény family at Galda de Jos (Alsógáld) is dated by Romanian Wikipedia to the 17th century. In the 1780s five peasants imprisoned here after the Câmpeni uprising of 1782 were the target of a planned rescue attempt by Cloșca, which the Armistice of Tibru prevented. Under communism the building was used to hold political prisoners. It was later renovated and now serves as a centre for neuropsychiatric recovery and rehabilitation. A short section of the brick wall that once enclosed it survives on the east side.
