History
The first manor was built by the Golescu family, probably in the time of Iordache Golescu, who also built the nearby Golescu church. After 1880 Nicolae (Nae) Gussi became owner of the Golescu estates. After 1900 Alexandru Gussi (1864-1947), a magistrate and politician, modernised the manor and estate, and rebuilt the old house in 1938-1939. The interwar estate of the Gussi and Lahovary families covered about 550 ha plus 100 ha of vineyards. After 1949 it was nationalised and housed Sovrom Petrol, an IAS state farm and finally the town hall. It was offered at auction in 2019 from 275,000 EUR without a sale, and in January 2022 the press reported that the company Vision Apartments, owned by a private Swiss individual, had bought it.
