History

The manor is dated 1840 and stands on Gábor Áron street. According to Explore Carpathia it was built by János Benedek and is a wooden building in peasant-baroque style; a local newspaper calls it the oldest wooden-structure residential building in the area. The municipality owns it, and the Ethnographia Gyergyoiensis Foundation, active since 1992, uses it under a long-term lease. A restoration financed through the Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway grants took just over a year and was completed in 2016; it included fixing groundwater seepage into the vaulted cellar and conserving old painted wall decoration. The building was officially reopened on 27 June 2016 and houses a folk house museum and a folk art workshop.
