Bánffy Manor, Turea
Conacul Banffy · Bánffy-kúria (Türe)
sat Turea; comuna Gârbău, Cluj · 14
Summary
A ruined Bánffy family manor in Turea (Cluj County), dated to the 17th or late 18th century. The roof has collapsed and the grounds are overgrown; it is a listed monument (LMI CJ-II-m-B-07802).
History
Sources disagree on the date: Romanian Wikipedia and the LMI say 17th century, while Hungarian Wikipedia says the late 1700s and notes a stone tablet over the entrance reading '1774 G. B. M.'. The Bánffy family lived here until about the 1867 Compromise. The house then passed to Colonel Aladár Wilburg, who used it as barracks. In the 20th century it served as a people's council, court, mayor's office and collective-farm housing. It has been empty for some time, the roof has fallen in and the yard is overgrown.
