Summary

A Teleki family estate in Luna de Jos (Dăbâca commune, Cluj). The Renaissance castle is lost; what remains is a 35 m neo-Gothic hunting tower, a small neoclassical manor and a park. The manor houses a county care centre.

History

The Kendi family lost the estate in 1610 and it passed to the Hallers; in 1688 Count Mihály Teleki acquired it. He began the castle and his son Pál finished it around 1700, but Pál's support for Rákóczi's uprising led the imperial army to destroy it (repairs are recorded in 1727-28, and Romanian Wikipedia says demolition was ordered after 1700). Estate extensions continued into the 19th century, and by the late 19th century it covered about 930 ha. The Telekis held it until 1935, after which it was sold several times and then nationalised. It served as a collective-farm headquarters, and since 1974 the manor has housed a county Care and Assistance Centre. The tower belongs to the local council and is in an advanced state of degradation.
