Summary
A Classicist manor-castle in Hăghig (Hídvég, Covasna County), dated 18th-19th century, with a Baroque porch at the centre of the entrance. It is the only surviving part of a larger complex and housed a home for the elderly from 1970.
History
The castle belonged to the Nemes de Hídvég és Oltszem family and dates from the 18th-19th centuries; the Nemes family owned it until the 20th century, according to kastelyok.com. It stood in a large park with outbuildings. During nationalisation the interior was divided up, stucco ceiling decoration was destroyed and the vaulted cellar was closed off. From 1970 it housed a home for the elderly. In the course of modernisation the two-storey gatehouse and two single-storey wings were lost, leaving only the main building, an elongated rectangular Classicist block with a Baroque porch. The Nemes family were an old Székely noble family, raised to the rank of counts in 1755, and also had a Roman Catholic family chapel in the village, built in the 19th century.
