Summary
A Baroque 18th-century noble complex in Gârbou (Sălaj) built by the Haller family, with a residence, chapel, gate and fountain. The main buildings were destroyed in 1944 and only the gate, a fountain and the chapel survive in advanced decay.
History
Count János Haller built the castle in the 18th century (sources give 1766 or 1776), with a fountain of the 1760s and a chapel of 1783. In 1781 Miklós Wesselényi passed through its gateway to begin a siege of the Hallers, after a dispute with his neighbour. Later the Jósika family obtained the estate and built a second castle in the garden, while the Haller building became servants' housing. In 1944 the buildings were destroyed and villagers carried off the remaining stone. In the communist period the site was used as an agricultural cooperative base and depot. Today only the gate, the fountain and the chapel remain.
