History

The Apor family acquired Turia de Jos in 1307, and the manor is first mentioned in 1536. After damage in Michael the Brave's invasion, Lázár Apor rebuilt it in the 1630s. István Apor rebuilt it in late Renaissance style in the 1690s, adding vaulted rooms and Renaissance details; Péter Apor wrote Metamorphosis Transylvaniae here in 1736. After 1814 Baron Lázár Apor added a two-storey Classical central risalit and in 1831 a Neo-Gothic funerary chapel. The family was expelled in 1949 and the manor became the cooperative's headquarters. A member of the Apor family reclaimed it in the early 1990s and restoration began in 2002, starting with the roof. A member of the Apor family died in 2023 and his son now manages it.
