Summary

An 18th-century boyar house in Chiojdu, Buzău County, known for its stucco decoration and circular blazons. Owned by the Romanian Union of Architects, it was restored with EU funds and opened to visitors in 2015, with a rural-architecture centre and a museum planned.

History

Romanian Wikipedia says the house was raised by the Izbășoi boyars in 1760; an architectural study places it in the mid-18th century with substantial alterations around 1823, and cites a 1759 document naming the Izbășești landowners and an 1861 inheritance record describing the house. Earthquakes and lack of maintenance had caused serious damage, including wall dislocations and a partly collapsed floor. The Union of Architects took over the property (2008 or 2013 depending on source) and restored it in a project co-financed by EU funds, completed in 2015. The restoration was designed by Restitutio (architect Călin Hoinărescu). The house was opened to visitors in 2015, with plans for a museum of traditional art of the Buzău Mountains and a Centre for Rural Architectural Culture.
