Summary

A 17th-18th century boyar ensemble in Glogova made of the Glogoveanu house (cula), the St Nicholas church and an enclosure wall. A consolidation and restoration project for tourism is listed for the cula on the EU Reforms and Investments portal.

History

Local tradition says Matei Glogoveanu built the first house with a St Nicholas chapel around 1730, and his son Ioniță finished the church and, after 1764, built the present dwelling, keeping only the old cellar. The Glogova community played an important political role through the Glogoveanu boyars, and Tudor Vladimirescu once managed their estates nearby. The house was restored by Gheorghe Vernescu in the late 19th century. After 1951 it held a collective farm office and school classrooms. Architect Iancu Atanasescu began a restoration in 1964, after which it became a local museum, and it was a guesthouse after 1990. A project to consolidate and restore the cula and its access road for tourism is listed on the EU Reforms and Investments portal.
