History
The manor stood on the Viziru estate of the de Roma family, whose members descended from an old noble family of Zante. According to Ziarul Lumina (2014) and Adevărul, Count Petru de Roma (1833-1914) built the southern wing after marrying Sofia Ipsilanti in 1860; after her death he inherited the estate, and the northern wing was added about a decade later. He married Princess Maria Vogoridi in 1872, and their son Nicolae was born at the manor in 1875. Petru de Roma also founded the Orthodox church of Viziru in 1869. Adevărul reports that the state took the estate under the 1918 and 1921 land reforms and gave the palace to the Romanian Academy as an agricultural school, which opened in 1923; after 1947 it was repaired and used by agricultural offices of the Ministry of Agriculture, and since 1989 the Brăila county office of APIA has occupied part of it. The same article describes the rest as in semi-abandonment, with a broken roof. According to Jurnalul Brăilean, a fire in March 2025 burned part of the disused section while the APIA-occupied part was saved. The list of historic monuments protects the former manor, an annex, an ice house, the enclosure with its gates and the park, at Trandafirilor Street no. 20.
