History

According to castleintransylvania.ro, the old manor was probably built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, and side buildings were added in 1821 by Zámbler László and Bernáld Mária, named as builders in a document found during a renovation in the late 1980s. The same source lists the Bernáld family as owners until 1570, the Damokos family until 1639, the Kálnoky family until 1732 and the Zámbler family until 1880, after which the Damokos family held it again; the last owners were Dénes Damokos and his wife. A back room served as a Roman Catholic chapel until the village church was built, and the house is described as the only Damokos manor with a cross on its roof. The farm buildings beside it were demolished and block flats were built on their site in the 1980s, which narrowed the courtyard. Two late-Baroque gate pillars mark the former southern boundary of the estate. The manor now houses the town hall and mayor's office of Cernat commune.
