Summary

A late Baroque town palace at Str. Mihail Kogălniceanu 7 in Cluj-Napoca, built 1790-1795 for the Teleki family to designs by Josef Leder. Badly deteriorated, it is slated for a RON 67 million rehabilitation funded by the county, the city and private co-owners.

Legal status

Acquired by the Roman Catholic Church in the 1930s, nationalised under communism; now shared ownership as above ↗

History

Count Ádám Teleki began the palace on three plots, and after his death without an heir his relative László Teleki completed it between 1790 and 1795. Josef Leder, formerly deputy to Johann Eberhard Blaumann, was the architect. The historian and governor József Teleki lived and worked there, and his salon was a centre of Transylvanian public life. The Roman Catholic Church acquired the building in the 1930s. After nationalisation it served as student dormitories and housing. The Octavian Goga County Library has had a branch in the facade wing, but advanced degradation forced it to move out temporarily. In 2026 a RON 67.5 million rehabilitation was announced; ownership is shared between the county (36.34%), the city (37.01%) and private holders (26.65%).
