History
The house is listed as a historic monument (MH-II-m-B-10277) and dated to the 19th century. Constantin Rădulescu-Motru, later president of the Romanian Academy, was born in it on 15 February 1868. According to Gazeta de Sud, the estate of about 300 pogoane came to him from his mother, Judita Butoi, who came from a local boyar family. A relative quoted in Revista Ferma describes the house less as a boyar manor in the strict sense than as a meeting place for cultural figures of the time. After his retirement in 1941 the communist authorities confiscated the property; he was briefly imprisoned in Turnu Severin in March 1949. A marble plaque on the front wall marks it as his memorial house, and some of his personal objects and books are displayed in the hall of the village school.
