Summary

A neo-Romanian manor at Vlăduceni Pietrari, designed by Petre Antonescu and named after Mihail Oromolu, a governor of the National Bank of Romania. A section of the Vâlcea county hospital used it from 1954 to 2005, and the National Bank later took it over for restoration.

History

The manor was built in 1914-1916 (some sources say 1915-1916) to plans by the architect Petre Antonescu. It is named after Mihail Oromolu (1875-1945), a jurist and politician and governor of the National Bank of Romania in the 1920s, who was born in Râmnicu Vâlcea. A 2011 article says Oromolu and his wife commissioned the house and occupied it from 1919, and that the inscription names D. Nedelcu as builder. From 1954 to 2005 a section of the county hospital worked in the building. A 2011 article reports that the property had passed through nationalisation, restitution, sale and enforcement, and that the National Bank of Romania had bought it from the Vâlcea public finance office when it was in an advanced state of degradation. In 2014 the Bank launched a tender for consolidation and refunctionalisation worth up to 10.2 million lei (about 2.3 million euro); a 2020 report says it is meant as a training centre for bankers and may also open to visitors.
