Summary
A single-storey Classicist manor built in 1844 in Dalnic (Dálnok), Covasna County, where the painter Miklós Barabás spent part of his childhood. Restored in 2013-2014 by the Community Foundation of Cluj-Napoca, it now works as a cultural centre with community spaces and guest accommodation.
History
Miklós Gaál and his wife Julianna Imre built the manor in 1844. The male line of the Gaál family, traced to 1540 and ennobled in 1644, ended with Zsigmond Gaál's death in 1889. The estate then passed by marriage to the Borbáth family, whose last resident lived there until his death in 1984. After 1950 the family was deported to Dobruja, the house was looted and used as cooperative storage until the family returned in 1956. The Community Foundation of Cluj-Napoca bought the manor and estate in 2011 and restored the main house and outbuildings in 2013-2014. The symmetrical Classicist house has a porch with square pillars and basket-handle arches and a central salon flanked by two three-room wings, with a family crypt on the hillside above.
