Summary
A historic Székely wooden manor in Armășeni (Csíkménaság), Ciucsângeorgiu commune, Harghita County, with phases dated 1797, 1828, 1835 and 1869 and a Székely gate from 1828. It is a listed monument that underwent urgent conservation works in the early 2000s after decades of decay.
History
The manor was built in phases, recorded in the monument list as 1797, 1828, an extension in 1835 and 1869. Its Székely gate dates from 1828 and is counted among the oldest monumental gates of its kind. The house, with a stone cellar, is regarded as a fine example of the Székely primipilus residence along the Fiság valley. It was declared a historic monument in 1955 and lived in until the early 1980s, after which it deteriorated badly; by 2000 it was in a dangerous state, with broken beams and fungus on the walls. Surveys were carried out in 2001-2002 by an archaeologist, followed by urgent works including treatment of the fungus, re-laying the roof and making new windows and doors. The Heritage Protection Society of Ciuc has been involved in its rescue.
