History
Dumitru Castroian (1813-1898), a Macedo-Romanian merchant who rose to the rank of spătar, bought the Budești estate at auction around 1850 from the widow of Grigore Rizu. He built his residence on a terrace of about three hectares in the north-west of the village, with terraced gardens, a spring-fed water house, a pond and a chestnut plantation, and paid for the church in Budești, completed in 1864, where he was buried. The estate passed to his daughter Eleonora Volenti; in 1907 villagers entered the manor courtyard during the peasant uprising, and the lessee had already fled. After the 1921 land reform the estate was cut back, and by 1946 Maria Varlam kept 50 ha including the manor. In 1949 her remaining land and property were expropriated without compensation. The house is now described as neglected.
