Summary

A late 19th-century manor at Manasia (Ialomița) built for Ion Hagianoff, a Bulgarian politician in exile, with a wine cellar and park. Restored in 2008-2013 by a private owner for about 2 million EUR, it now operates as an events and dining venue.

History

The land was bought in 1839 by Efrem Obrenovici and later passed to Ion Hagianoff, a former Bulgarian foreign minister exiled in Romania. He had the manor built; the LMI dates it to 1899, while one press article gives 1879. The manor was a leisure venue for Bucharest's elite. After the communist takeover it became a state farm (IAS) until 1990 and was then left to decay. In 2006 it was bought by a private buyer, who restored it from 2008 to 2013 at a cost of about 2 million EUR. It is a class A monument and hosts events and meals, with visits by reservation.
