Summary

A manor in Zorești village (Vernești commune, Buzău County), built around the middle of the 19th century by Constantin Cârlova, half-brother of the poet Vasile Cârlova. It is also known as Villa Zorilor, and Monumente Uitate records it as a winery.

Legal status

Nationalised after the sale of the 1940s and used as a wine production unit of IAS Săhăteni (according to the Buzău tourism site) ↗

History

According to the Buzău tourism site, Constantin Cârlova built the manor around the mid-19th century, with outbuildings, a spirits factory and a park with a pond. The family came in spring and autumn to work the vineyards, and the lawyer Mihai C. Cârlova was born there. A fire damaged the house at the end of the 19th century, and in the First World War it was looted by the occupying army. The last Cârlova descendant, Horia, sold the estate in the early 1940s to Aurel Mihăilescu, a National Peasant Party senator. After nationalisation it became a wine production unit of IAS Săhăteni. The same site says the house, cellars and 90 hectares of vineyard now belong to Vintruvian Estates, which bought them from Vinarte.
