Summary

A 19th-century neo-Gothic castle in Săvădisla (Cluj County), built by the Mikes family and later a summer residence of the Széchen family. It has housed a lung (TB) sanatorium, and the old dendrological park around it is neglected.

History

The estate passed through several noble families and reached Baron János Jósika in 1802. Through marriage it went to the Mikes family, and the castle is credited to Zsigmond Mikes (1867-1951), with the Mikes initials on the weathervane. His kinswoman Johanna Mikes married Count Miklós Széchen, the last landowner, who used it as a summer house. A lung sanatorium is reported in the building from 1931. Romanian Wikipedia says it is still used as a TB sanatorium, while another source says its condition has deteriorated badly.
